The Arts Practicum is an opportunity to gain work experience while applying the skills you have developed through your Arts degree in a supervised workplace project.

More than just another six points, the Arts Practicum connects your university study with the workplace. You will learn new skills, make valuable workplace connections, and you will think explicitly about how your Arts course can be used as the basis for a career. 

You will work on a project of real value to your host organisation, helped by a supervisor from that public or private sector organisation.

The UWA Handbook provides unit information, availability, unit outcomes, assessment and prerequisities for the Arts Practicum unit HUMA2901.

HUMA2211 is available to Albany-based students only. Albany students interested in taking a practicum should discuss their options with the Director of the Albany Centre.

Majors

The Arts Practicum gives you six points towards your Arts degree, but will not contribute to a major.

Timetable and assessments

The project will require you to:

• complete a minimum of 100 hours of work on a discrete project.
• attend two workshops.
• submit written materials that document and reflect on your placement and career goals.

You can negotiate with your practicum supervisor how the hours will be scheduled. They can be spread over a semester, limited to mornings or afternoons, or completed in a full-time block during vacations.

You will be advised of workshop dates and times once your placement has been organised.
