Guidelines

Submission requirements

Coversheet

A proforma will be provided in the acceptance of nomination packs, which include accepting nominees personal details, consent to the submission process and indication of the category for which the nominee would like to be considered.

Written statement

Nominees are to submit a written statement describing their teaching / research supervision activities and achievements and addressing each of the required selection criteria.
The maximum lengths for the statement are:

  • Awards for Teaching Excellence five (5) A4 pages addressing all five selection criteria.
  • Awards for Research Supervision two (2) A4 pages addressing one or more of the five selection criteria.
  • Award for Projects that Enhance Learning five (5) A4 pages addressing all four criteria.
  • Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning two (2) A4 pages addressing one or more of the five selection criteria.

Supporting material

The maximum length of supporting material (such as SPOTs, peer reviews, website or other printed material) is 10 A4 pages.
Note: Nominees for the Award for Research Supervision Excellence are required to submit a list detailing all students supervised to completion, including the level and result or grade.

Assessment of submissions

In assessing submissions for Teaching and Research Supervision Excellence, the judging panel will take into account:

  • The extent to which the claims for excellence are supported by formal and informal evaluation;
  • The extent of creativity, imagination or innovation, irrespective of whether the approach involves traditional learning environments or technology-based developments; and
  • The information contained in the student statement, references and selected teaching materials submitted by the nominee.

In addition to the above, submissions for Projects that Enhance Learning should demonstrate evidence of the sustained effectiveness of the project.
In assessing submissions for Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning nominees should demonstrate evidence of:

  • Influenced student learning, student engagement or the overall student experience;
  • Been sustained over time; and
  • Gained recognition from fellow staff, the institution, and/or the broader community.

Presentation

There is no advantage in elaborate presentation of nominations. The cover sheet (provided) is adequate as a cover page. This form will need to be photocopied and placed on the front of each of the nine copies required.

  • Submissions are to be printed in 11 pt font size, with a 12 point line spacing. To do this in Word, select 11 pt as font size. From the Format menu select Paragrah. In the dialogue box for Line Spacing select "Exactly" and then in the At field enter "12pt".
  • Nine identical copies of the submission must be provided (one for each member of the judging panel, and one for administrative records).
  • All submissions to be bound with a single clip  and are not to be placed in covers.
