News

  • A new award for distinction in translation has just been announced by Australia’s peak humanities body. The Australian Academy of the Humanities will award its Medal for Excellence in Translation biennially to the best translation into English produced by an Australian translator, as judged by a panel of experts appointed by the Academy.

The Academy is grateful for the support to establish the Award from the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund and three Australian universities – Monash University, The University of Melbourne, The University of Western Australia – each with a particular interest in translation.

By awarding the medal for an outstanding work of translation, the Academy is adding to the growing recognition of work in this field, complementing awards such as the NSW Premier’s Prize for Translation which recognises lifetime achievement.

The medal will be awarded biennially starting in 2016. Details of the submission procedure, deadlines and the assessment process will be available on the Academy’s website when the scheme opens.
