Women in Asia

Postgraduate delegates are invited to attend the postgraduate half-day on Tuesday 26 September, from 8.30am –12pm.

This is a free event for postgrads who have registered to attend the Women in Asia conference. While attendance at the workshop is free, please note that registration is required and attendance numbers are limited.

In the first half of the event, Professor Pam Nilan, University of Newcastle, will lead an activity-based workshop about HDR Students Publishing with Supervisor(s). Professor Nilan will discuss gender and PhD publishing, the advantages and pitfalls of collaboration for both students and supervisors. Postgraduate delegates will then work through two case study activities with Professor Nilan's guidance.

After morning tea there will be a panel discussion of the issues that affect female researchers working in Asian Studies. Dr Annie Pohlman, The University of Queensland, Dr Kelly Gerard, The University of Western Australia, and Professor Louise Edwards, University of New South Wales, will reflect on their own careers and offer gendered perspectives on a life in academia, before answering questions and joining an informal discussion with postgraduate delegates.

Lunch is not included, but participants will be able to buy their own lunch from cafes and restaurants nearby before the Women in Asia conference opens at 1pm.
