BA (European Languages, German) Hons
Journalist, Time magazine
After my graduation in 1994, I started a cadetship at The West Australian newspaper.
My academic results and writing skills earned me the prestigious 1995 Fulbright Post-Graduate Student Award in Journalism, sponsored by Time Australia.
This $30,000 scholarship gave me the chance to study journalism at a university in the USA. I graduated top of my class in the Master's Degree Program in Journalism at Columbia University, New York City, in 1996. I travelled as a freelance journalist, writing reports from Cambodia, Vietnam, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
I ended up in New York City after landing an exciting job as Director of Research for Sports Illustrated's official program for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. I travelled from the US to Sydney to interview prominent Australians, and I was thrilled to meet former Olympian Dawn Fraser, as well as current Australian Olympic heroes Ian Thorpe and Cathy Freeman.
I intend to return to live in Australia one day and will doubtlessly bring with me a wealth of journalistic experience, as well as a close understanding of cultural differences that is crucial for success in a career as an international journalist.
