Postgraduate research degrees involve independent, self-directed research, with supervision from academic experts. Now is your opportunity to immerse yourself in an area of interest and make an important contribution to your chosen research area.

PhD (4 years full time)
Doctor of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the University's flagship research degree, which can be taken in any discipline area in the University. A program of independent, supervised research that is assessed solely on the basis of a thesis, sometimes including a creative work component. The work presented for a PhD must be a substantial and original contribution to scholarship, demonstrating mastery of the subject of interest as well as an advance in that field of knowledge.

Masters by Research (MPhil) (2 years full time)
Master of Philosophy

The Master of Philosophy is a program of independent, supervised research and is assessed solely on the basis of a thesis. This program can be taken in any discipline for which appropriate supervision is available. It is a highly flexible course that mirrors the structure and breadth of the Doctor of Philosophy.

Master of Arts (Creative Writing)
Creative writing

Hone your creative writing skills, working across any genre, with the goal of becoming a published writer.

Master of Music (Research)
Master of Music

This course is designed for professionals or graduates to pursue composition or performance at postgraduate level, as well as investigate the theoretical/historical aspects of performance and composition.

Doctor of Musical Arts
Doctor of Musical Arts

Work with world-class supervisors to prepare and present for examination either a portfolio of original compositions in a variety of genres or two recitals showing professional skill and interpretative ability.

Higher Degree by Research Preliminary
HDR preliminary

Applicants who demonstrate a great potential for research but do not meet eligibility criteria for direct entry into a Masters or PhD research program can apply for the Higher Degree by Research Preliminary.
