This provides the specialist practical skills and knowledge to allow students to be employed in, or to lead students to, higher degree research in the field of maritime archaeology.

This course is taught by archaeologists at both the University of Western Australia (UWA) and The Department of Maritime Archaeology, Western Australian Museum (WAMM).

Course outline

This course is a master's degree by coursework and dissertation, requiring completion of eight 6-point units, plus a dissertation of 24 points (total 72 points).

This course may be undertaken full or part-time. A standard full-time completion duration is 1.5 years.

The course consists of a one-year full-time program, plus an additional semester in the next year to complete a dissertation. Students will complete the first year units in two semesters with diving to take place in the summer months. The first 24 points are taught over the 7-8 weeks intensive teaching period and the second 24 points taught in a standard semester mode.

Admission requirements

Applicants are normally expected to possess a bachelor's degree in archaeology or a related discipline. If applicants are to dive then qualifications are required.
