Please make an appointment with Dr David Savat and complete the form at the back of the booklet. You will also need to complete one of the following application forms and take it with you to your meeting with Dr Savat:

In addition to the attachments required in the application form applicants who are not graduates of this University must submit an original transcript or certified copy of their academic record for all tertiary qualifications to date.

This enables students to gain substantial understanding of communications theory and equip them with the practical skills and knowledge needed in communications-related employment areas.

Skills and knowledge in communication studies are complementary to qualifications in a range of professional and other areas.

Students look at the nature of communication from a number of different perspectives and apply their knowledge in project-based work, while developing practical communication skills in the Arts Multimedia Centre. You will receive hands on experience in digital media, including website design, digital video and image manipulation.

Course outline

This is a three semester full-time or three years part-time course in which you will study communications studies units and complete a dissertation. Six units are required:

You will also study two communications studies honours units, as well as complete a COMM8501 Communication Studies Dissertation.

Graduates with communication studies skills will have an extra insight into the role of communication in every aspect of our lives, which will make them particularly valuable in areas such as journalism, the media, advertising, public relations, multimedia, public administration, business, government and education.

Completing further study beyond a bachelor's degree will enhance your chances of employment as well as advancement, as you will increase your knowledge in specific areas that interest you.

Admission requirements

Applicants are normally expected to possess a bachelor's degree, with honours, or have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Communication Studies.
