This is for practitioners, managers, and service planners working in the field of child protection, across government and non-government agencies, who wish to focus in-depth on the specialist knowledge and skills required for this complex and demanding area of practice.

The course will be firmly rooted in the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child and the principles of strengths-based intervention, capacity building and inclusivity.

The graduate certificate is intended for people who already hold a degree but who wish to undertake further study so that they can proceed to a graduate diploma and possibly also a master's degree, or who wish to obtain advanced qualifications in a specific area of expertise.

Course outline

This is a one year part-time course designed for social work professionals in which you will study two units each semester, taught in modular format over three days. Individuals will be able to negotiate the dates with their lecturers within the two-week time periods given below. The units are:

Graduates may be able to apply credit from this course towards further study at Graduate Diploma or Masters level.

Career prospects

There is an increasing demand for social work practitioners to become more skilled in preferred areas of practice such as child welfare. Completing further study beyond a bachelor's degree will enhance your chances of employment as well as advancement, as you will increase your knowledge in specific areas that interest you.

Admission requirements

A Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent in an allied health profession, without honours.
